Chandrapur: Wildlife NGO, Eco-Pro organisation kicked off an awareness campaign against man-animal conflict to mark the Wildlife Week from Sunday. The organization added an edge to the campaign by clubbing awareness and cleanliness to mark Gandhi Jayanti.
“We are targeting the urban parts of city and the villages facing the steep man-animal conflict in the drive. People are being educated and enlightened about the cause of man-animal conflict. They are being explained about the reasons why wild animals enter the habitation or venture near the villages and measures to be adopted to deal with such situation,” said Eco-Pro president and member of State Wildlife Board, Bandu Dhotre.
The drive was launched from Lalpeth-Matanagar areas located on the outskirts of the city. This area is close to thickly vegetated overburdens of Western Coalfields Ltd (WCL) and often visited by bears and leopards. There have been instance of people been attacked by the predators in this area and residents here lives in continuous fear of wild animal attacks.
“While forest department is making efforts to deal with the conflict situation, municipal corporation and WCL too have an important role to play in the mitigation. Vigilance on part of citizens is must to tackle the situation. Hence, people are being educated about dos and don’ts to deal with the conflict under the drive,” Dhotre said.
He claimed that Eco-Pro is constantly working with administration and society to tackle the man-animal conflict. Situation often turns tense after the incidents of wild animal attack. Hence it is necessary to have a positive dialogue before any untoward incident takes place,” Dhotre said.
