Kalaburagi: The centre of excellence that was shifted to the Bengaluru University campus from the Central University of Karnataka has returned to the latter.
In 2018, the Union government sanctioned the centre of excellence to start it in a backward region like Kalyana Karnataka, specifically in the CUK but later it shifted it to the Bengaluru University campus for lack of resources.
But in syndicate meeting held at Bengaluru University, the proposal of starting centre of excellence has been rejected.
People and students from this region fought against the shifting of the centre to Bengaluru.
Bengaluru University had come to an agreement of giving 10 acres to the centre for 33 years. The decision was taken in a 2019 syndicate meeting. But in the syndicate meeting held on September 23, it was decided that the plan would be rejected.
To start the centre, the CUK will have to get loan of Rs 100 crore from the higher education funding authority. The varsity has huge campus and it has space for the centre. The CUK registrar said that work for an sophisticated instrumentation centre is already are under way.
