Mumbai International Airport on alert over email warning of a bomb, security beefed up

Security agencies have been put on alert after an email was received at the Mumbai International Airport warning about a bomb on an IndiGo plane, police officials said Sunday.

While the warning turned out to be a hoax, the security has been beefed up at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, they said.

"On Saturday night, an email was received at the Mumbai airport, in which it was written that a bomb had been planted in Indigo flight number 6E 6045," an official said.

This flight was to take off from Mumbai and land at Ahmedabad. It was checked after the email, but nothing was found on the flight, the Mumbai police said.

However, the flight was delayed. Security agencies are investigating the matter.

Palghar: Man accused of rape, suicide abetment caught after 9 years

A 29-year-old man accused of raping a woman and abetting her suicide nine years ago has been arrested by police in Maharashtra's Palghar district, an official said on Sunday.

The accused, Sultan alias Raja Noormohammad Shaikh, had allegedly raped the 19-year-old woman on various occasions in February 2013 after giving her drinks laced with sedatives, Mira Bhayander-Vasai Virar police's senior inspector Pramod Badakh said.

The victim became pregnant, but the accused asked her not to inform anyone about it or else he would make her objectionable video clip public, he said.

Unplanned water cuts affect severely CIDCO areas

The water supply was severely affected in CIDCO-administered areas on Sunday as the work on the pipeline was delayed and the shutdown was extended.

For the last two days, Kharghar, Taloja, Ulwe, and Dronagiri nodes have not received water.

Residents of these nodes have expressed anger over unplanned water cuts. They alleged that the sudden water cut dented their festive moods.

16 arrested as police bust fake call centre scamming Americans

Thane police have busted a fake call centre which allegedly duped US citizens after offering them loans and arrested 16 people in this connection, an official said on Sunday.

Acting on a tip-off, the police raided the call centre located in Wagle Estate area of Maharashtra's Thane city on the intervening night of Friday-Saturday and nabbed the people working there, including three women, senior police inspector V B Murtadak said.

He said the accused would contact people in the US and offer them loans. After obtaining their bank account details, the accused would siphon off funds from their accounts, the official said.

Navi Mumbai: 1 killed following building collapse; rescue operation underway

A 31-year-old man died after a portion of ground plus a three-storey building collapsed at Bonkode village in Koparkhiarne on Saturday night.

While the building collapsed around 10.30 pm, the body was found on Sunday morning, said NMMC’s Disaster control official. Soon after the incident, the fire brigade rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation.

According to police, a portion of the 25-year-old Vaishnavi Apartment building collapsed. While clearing the debris, the body of a man, identified as Priyavart Sarveshwar Dutt, was found on Sunday morning.

36 new COVID-19 cases in Thane; active tally at 355

Maharashtra's Thane district has reported 36 new COVID-19 cases, taking its infection tally to 7,45,085, a health official said on Sunday.

With the addition of the latest numbers on Saturday, there are currently 355 active COVID-19 cases in Thane, which is part of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, he said.

The death toll in the district remained unchanged at 11,962. The recovery count has reached 7,33,500, he added. (PTI)

BMC chief welcomes SC decision to construct public amenities on Coastal road's reclaimed land

BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal welcomed the Supreme Court's order which allowed the civic body to construct various public amenities on the reclaimed land of the Coastal Road Project.

"Supreme Court's order will help BMC to complete the Coastal road project within time," said Chahal.

BMC will construct public toilets, walking, jogging and cycling tracks, a butterfly garden, an open theatre, play grounds for children besides police stations, bus stops, subways for crossing road, jetty while three underground parking with capacity of 1857 vehicles has also been proposed.

Mumbai Traffic police issue new restrictions for Devi idol immersion; check details here

The Mumbai Traffic Police on Saturday issued new traffic restrictions and directions that will be implemented during the Navratri – Durga Idol immersion days – between October 5 to 6, across the Mumbai police jurisdiction.

A total of 22 roads will be closed in South Mumbai and Eastern Suburbs during these days. It includes Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Road from Gol Deul to Girgoan Chowpatty, Dr. Dadasahbeb Badkamkar Marg in all junctions from Alibhai Premji junction to Triveni Chowk (Grant Road Junction) i.e, except for idol immersion vehicle towards Chowpatty.
