Srinagar, Oct 2: An encounter started in the Baskuchan area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian on Sunday, the police said.
They said the encounter erupted at Baskuchan during a cordon and a search operation in the area following an input about the presence of militants.
“As the joint team of forces cordoned the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering a gunfight”, police said.
Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow, they added.
