Hubballi: South Western Railway has temporarily increased the platform ticket fare at SSS Hubballi and Belagavi stations from October 2. In a press release, it has said the platform ticket fare in SSS Hubballi and Belagavi stations in the Hubballi division has been increased from Rs 10 to Rs 20 during October 2-10 temporarily. “The enhancement of platform ticket fare is to ensure free movement of bona fide passengers on platforms and to avoid overcrowding during the peak Dasara festival season and holidays,” release added.

gets mobile digital planetarium
Dharwad: Dharwad Regional Science Centre near Karnatak University here is now equipped with a mobile digital planetarium thanks to a collaboration by Karnataka Science & Technology Promotion Society (KSTPS) and Varnaaz Technologies. The initiative is to provide an opportunity to rural and urban schoolchildren get astronomy education at their doorsteps. MLC Basavaraj Horatti flagged off the digital mobile planetarium in the premises of DRSC on Thursday. Each show is 25 to 30 minutes long and 30 to 40 students can watch at once. DRSC director Veeranna Bolishetty said mobile digital planetariums are a portable form of a fixed planetarium which are equipped to create an artificial night sky by using an inflatable dome and state-of-the-art projection system. It has an ability to present astronomy and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) shows to students through an entertainment concept.

auto drivers told
Belagavi: Taking issue with non-compliance on the part of autorickshaw drivers who are yet to instal meters on their vehicles have been asked to do so at the earliest. The Belagavi district administration has asked all auto drivers to instal meters, and ensure that fares displayed on the meters are collected from the passengers. Across Belagavi, more than 6,000 autos are plying on the roads of the city, and most of the drivers do not charge prescribed fares. The public has been demanding installation of meters on all autos, since it saves them from being fleeced. Belagavi DC Nitesh Patil said that all auto drivers had been warned against fleecing passengers. “The minimum fare now is Rs 25 for 1.5km. However, drivers charge more. No action is being taken despite repeated complaints,” passengers said. Patil said during night, drivers were charging anywhere between Rs 150 and Rs 250. “If we receive such complaints henceforth, we will not only seize the rickshaws, but suspend the driving licence,” said the DC.

Addressing a gathering after inaugurating “Modi @ 20, 2 decades of development transformation” organised by KLE Technological University here on Saturday, he said BJP has not lost a single election under the leadership of Modi. “He has the ability to build on new ideas from thinkers. He works tirelessly for the development of India,” he said. KLE Technological University VC Ashok Shettar said PM Modi faced several challenges during the pandemic. “He made Gujarat a model state during his tenure as its CM,” he said, adding railways, transport system and industry have been developed after Modi came to power. KLE Society director Shankaranna Munavalli, college staff and others were present.
Teacher suspended for ‘misbehaviour’
Davanagere: A teacher of a government higher primary school at Yeraganahatti Halli in Channagiri taluk of Davanagere district was suspended on Saturday for allegedly misbehaving with a girl student. The accused is identified as Loka Prakash. The girl on Friday evening told her parnts about Prakash’s behaviour over the last one week, after which the latter, along with a group of villagers, stripped and beat the teacher black and blue. Channagiri BEO K Manjunath visited the school on Saturday and told STOI that a report on the issue was forwarded to Davanagere DDPI G R Thippeshappa. Based on the report, the DDPI suspended the teacher pending departmental inquiry.
