Deepak alias Tinu, an accused in the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, escaped from police custody on Saturday. A staff of the Central Investigation Agency (CIA) was taking him somewhere at around 11 pm when the gangster took the opportunity to escape.
Deepak is a close aide of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, the mastermind behind Sidhu Moose Wala's murder. Deepak's name was on the charge sheet that listed 15 people as shooters, masterminds and others involved in the murder.
Singer and politician Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead in Punjab's Mansa district on May 29. He was shot dead a day after the state government curtailed his security cover. His cousin and a friend, who were travelling in a jeep with him, were also injured in the attack.
