Ludhiana: October 2 is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti every year, to pay tributes to the Father of the Nation
Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary. Schools and colleges across the city on Saturday organised special events to mark the day.
Gandhian Studies Centre at Ludhiana’s Arya College organized a special programme on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti. A melange of speeches, poems and skit were presented by the students on this occasion. An exhibition on life and works of Mahatma Gandhi was also arranged to disseminate knowledge about the iconic personality among the youngsters.
Udham Singh Nagar’s BVM School also observed the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Kindergarteners of Shishu Vatika dressed up as the two personalities. Students of Nursery class drew portraits of Gandhi’s campaigns like the Non-Cooperation Movement and Salt Satyagraha, and Shastri’s Green Revolution. Students also recited various poems emphasising the legacy of India.
BCM Kindergarten, Basant Avenue, Dugri also took part in the celebrations. The teachers enacted a play on Swatcch Bharat, to motivate students to ensure cleanliness.
Drishti Dr R C Jain Innovative Public School also took part in the celebrations.
