GURUGRAM: Five people, including three security guards and two employees, were rescued after a fire broke out in a pub at Global Foyer Mall in Gurugram's Golf Course Road on Saturday morning, fire department officials said.
No one was injured in the incident which is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. However, a huge loss of property has occurred.
Officers said they received the information around 6am that the fire broke out at La La Land Brew Pub. At least 10 fire tenders and a hydraulic crane were pressed into service. As the plumes of smoke billowed out of the mall, the area was cleared quickly. It took around four hours for the firefighters to bring the flames under control.
Narender Singh, a fire department official, said the blaze spread quickly due to the presence of spirits and alcohol at the pub.
"With the help of a hydraulic crane, we rescued three security guards stuck on the fourth and sixth floors of the mall. Two other employees were brought down via the staircase. A glass pane was broken open to let the fire out because the area was completely closed and the flames were spreading quickly," he added.
The official said the flames also spread to some areas of the second floor before it was brought under control.
One of the rescued security guards told TOI that the incident was scary. "It was very scary. There was smoke all around. For once, I thought this was my last day. But thanks to the fire department for their timely execution, we were brought out safely," he stated.
An official from the pub said the entire property has been damaged. "It was the morning time, we were opening up when suddenly the place caught fire. Everything got gutted. Fortunately, no one was injured. The fire was massive," he said.
