Banaras Hindu University vice-chancellor: Do not confine yourselves to gain theoretical knowledge only

VARANASI: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) on Saturday welcomed civil service aspirants belonging to SC category who have been selected to avail free coaching under Dr Ambedkar Centre of Excellence.
The initiative of the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment will provide coaching to 100 candidates to prepare for Civil Services (Prelims and Mains) examinations.
Speaking at the inaugural event held at Malaviya Centre of Ethics and Human Values, BHU vice-chancellor Prof Sudhir Kumar Jain exhorted the selected candidates to give their best and take benefit from the facility.
He called upon the students not to confine themselves to gain theoretical knowledge only but work hard on building their personalities and developing life skills too.
“We want you to be successful in life and not just in exams. So, give your best and strive for a successful life, so that we at BHU feel proud that you were prepared and groomed at this centre”, said Prof Jain.
“Success can’t be measured just on the basis of performance in exams or the position one holds, but also on whether someone is contributing or not to the community, society and the country,” he added exuding confidence that Dr Ambedkar Centre of Excellence will not only provide coaching for civil services exams but also be able to reflect in its functioning the ideas proposed in the National Education Policy (NEP) for holistic development of students.
BHU registrar Prof Arun Kumar Singh said selected candidates will have an unique opportunity of interacting with subject experts and faculty members in BHU, professionals, mentors and bureaucrats. This will help them develop core skills required for being successful in competitive exams, he added.
Controller of examinations Prof. SK Upadhyaya and coordinator Prof. RN Kharwar also spoke on the occasion.
Dr Ambedkar Centre of Excellence scheme was launched nationwide from BHU in April this year. BHU is one of the central universities where the centre has been established, for which the varsity has signed an MoU with Dr Ambedkar Foundation, New Delhi.
