Technical innovations help Lucknow Municipal Corporation bag award

LUCKNOW: The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) bagged the 'Best City for Innovation and Best Practices' award for rolling out new technologies in the city.
The civic body was felicitated in a ceremony by the Union housing and urban affairs ministry on Saturday based on assessment done under Swachh Bharat survey 2022.
LMC has launched Lucknow-One app and self-assessment property tax software this year which helped it to get the award for the third time in a row.
Besides, installation of air purifiers and using compactors for solid waste management too helped the cause.
"These technological changes increased transparency and helped people in tax assessment, complaint filing, garbage disposal and combating air pollution," said Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia.
Earlier people had to visit LMC offices and stand in queues for hours to register their complaints or pay property tax. "We also increased compactors through which open dumping sites reduced from 300 to 110. On the other hand, we installed 12 air purifiers in the city that helped in reducing pollution," she added.
Last year, LMC had received the award for 'Best State Capital under Citizen Feedback' and in 2020 for 'Fastest Moving State Capital' in the same survey.
LMC chief Indrajit Singh said: "LMC has continuously made efforts to make the city clean and our next target will be to completely stop garbage dumping in open. We will also focus on addressing complaints timely and improving feedback from the people."
Bhatia and other officials were presented with mementos for their continuous efforts to give the city a status of GFC and ODF++ status at the "Swachh Amrit Mahotsav'' event held in New Delhi.
