PUNE: The Chatushrungi police have arrested a 41-year-old man on the charge of stalking and outraging the modesty of a woman staffer on the premises of an educational facility on Thursday.
Senior inspector Rajkumar Waghchavre on Friday said, "The woman told the police that the man had followed her and stared at her while she was playing a game of badminton. She also claimed that he took her photographs on his cellphone despite her objection."
Waghchavre said, "The suspect works in the operations department at the educational facility. He was taken into custody after the victim approached us with a complaint."
The senior police inspector said, "We have seized the arrested man's cellphone and lodged an FIR related to stalking of the Indian Penal Code."
The educational facility's registrar said, "Our students, with the help of the security personnel, caught the suspect and handed him over to the police for taking action."
A security official of the educational facility, requesting anonymity, said, "We examined the suspect's cellphone and found that he had clicked photos of many women/students. Considering the seriousness of the matter, we took the decision to hand him over to the police."
A section of students of the educational facility condemned the incident. "The arrested man should get strict punishment so that nobody else dares to do something similar," one among them said.
