St. Clair's Carter Boullard heads into the final stretch of the Division 2 state finals last year. He was voted Blue Water Area Athlete of the Week on Thursday.

If the St. Clair boys cross country team is going to advance to its 23rd straight state finals, it'll need senior Carter Boullard to be at his best.

Fortunately for the Saints, Boullard continues to dominate.

The senior was voted Blue Water Area Athlete of the Week on Thursday for week of Sept. 19-25. He set a personal record with a time of 16:09.8 at the New Balance Mid-Season Spectacular on Sept. 23.

The Times Herald recently caught up with Boullard to learn more about him.

Times Herald: How long have you been running cross country?

Carter Boullard: I started running in seventh grade. I wasn't going to run in high school, but I've ran all four years now.

TH: What makes you such a successful runner?

Boullard: Definitely the hard work. All the miles I've put in over the past four years. And then, obviously, having the teammates that I've had just continue to push me and make me better every day.

TH: Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Boullard: I don't really have a favorite professional athlete, but I've always looked up to past runners on our team like Jack Pennewell and Sam Vitale.

TH: What's something you enjoy doing outside of cross country?

Boullard: I like riding bikes with my brother and just hanging out with family and friends.

TH: What goal do you have for the rest of the season?

Boullard: I would say our main goal is to win a regional title as a team. And then my personal goal would be to win an individual regional title as well.
