Berhampur: With the spread of beauty and health consciousness in rural areas, several women in the tribal-dominated Gajapati district are learning beautician courses to set up their own businesses.
The district administration is running a free monthlong training programme at the Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) in Paralakhemundi.
Nearly 35 women, most of whom are tribals and within the age group of 18 to 45 years, are training to become beauticians and run their own beauty salons in the district.
“Women were given free board and training, primarily homemakers and school dropouts,” said Priyambada Bisoi, district project manager, Odisha Livelihood Mission.
“The need for beauty parlours is growing, especially in tribal areas. More women have signed up for training, which ends on October 13,” said Lingraj Panda, Gajapati collector. Apart from theory, we have also provided practical training to them, said Menaka Das, a master trainer.
