JAIPUR: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the transfer of Justice Pankaj Mittal, the current Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, to the Rajasthan High Court. The recommendation for appointing three new chief justices in high courts and the transfer of two high court chief justices has been sent to the Union Law Ministry following the Collegium meeting held recently under CJI UU Lalit.
The Rajasthan CJ post has been vacant since the retirement of Justice S S Shinde on August 1 this year. Justice M M Shrivastava has been functioning as the acting chief justice. Justice Pankaj Mithal is originally from Allahabad HC. He was appointed as an additional judge in the Allahabad HC from the bar on July 7, 2006. He was made permanent after two years on July 2, 2008. He took oath as the Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court on January 4, 2021.
