LUCKNOW: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said that unlike the past, spurious liquor is no longer claiming lives and illegal liquor trade has been curbed in the state over the past five years.
Distributing appointment letters to 332 youths who will join the excise department as constables in the coming days, the Chief Minister highlighted how his government has been instrumental in bringing down unemployment rate from 18-19% in 2016 to 2.6% now.
Expressing his happiness on the recruitment of 109 female constables, the CM said, "It is extremely heartening to see about 30% recruitment of females during the holy Sharadiya Navratri. The government is committed to providing employment opportunities to the youth with utmost transparency according to their eligibility."

Illegal liquor trade and smuggling has been curbed in Uttar Pradesh over the past five years,” Yogi said. “The transparency ushered in by our government has resulted in an increase in the revenue of excise department. We are confident that the revenue will achieve the target of Rs 41,500 crore in the present fiscal,” said Yogi, urging the new recruits to work with complete transparency, honesty and dedication during their service period.
Highlighting the achievements of his government, Yogi said that more than 5 lakh youths have been given government jobs over the past five and a half years while 1.61 crore benefitted through various opportunities through manufacturing and industrial units. “Moreover, 60 lakh craftsmen and artisans were also connected with financial institutions to ensure they become financially independent and self-reliant,” he said. Reiterating the vision of Mission Rozgar, Yogi said at least one person in every family in UP would get employment or would get support to become self-reliant.
“We also provided two crore tablets and smartphones to upgrade the skill of the youths,” he added. Listing the achievement of the excise department, Yogi said that the department, which was once infamous, helped in establishing 33 distilleries since April 2017. He also highlighted how UP has attained the top spot in terms of ethanol and alcohol production in the country and has facilitated payment of over Rs 1.8 lakh crore to sugarcane farmers. Quoting the report of the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), the CM said the state has managed to bring down the unemployment rate from 18-19% in 2016 to about 2.6%.
