LUCKNOW: A 5-year-old boy suffered serious burns when a pan of hot oil knocked down by three fighting bulls fell on him in Gayatrinagar of Faizullaganj on Thursday night.
The boy, Aarin, had gone to the market near his home with his parents, Manish Yadav, 40, and Sarika, 36.
He was standing in a corner while parents were buying vegetables when suddenly three bulls locked horns and started fighting.
The boy took shelter outside a sweet shop, but one of the bulls knocked down the stand on which a pan full of hot oil was kept.
The oil spilled on Aarin causing burns on his chest, abdomen and left leg. Parents rushed him to a hospital where he is still under treatment.
Sarika, who is a teacher, said her son is in deep shock and pain after the incident. "He could have died because of this cattle menace," she said. Awadesh Yadav, 32, the owner of the sweet shop, said his shop also got damaged in the incident. "Stray cattle is a huge problem in this area. It gets compounded when four illegal dairy owners in the locality leave their cattle in the open after milking them," he said.
LMC chief veterinary officer Abhinav Verma claimed teams have been sent to catch stray cattle in the area and assured of action against illegal dairy owners.
