Vadodara: Two women were killed when a blast occurred in a gas cylinder in a residential colony on Vasna Road. In the incident, five others were injured even as fire officials are investigating on how the blast occurred.
The incident happened in Jayesh Jain’s residence in Devnagar society at about 7.30am when the family was going about its daily chores. A deafening blast shook the entire house leaving the
Jain family shocked.
While 85-year-old Shankuntala Jain suffered grievous injuries and later died during treatment, Jayesh and his son Dhruvesh too received injuries from the blast.
“The family staying right next to Jain’s house too got injured in the incident. The blast damaged Jain’s house completely with even the walls crumbling down,” said Amit Chaudhary, station fire officer, Panigate. The furniture in the house too were badly damaged.
Leela Chauhan, staying in the house next to the Jains, too died during treatment. The injured have been identified as Jayesh Jain, Dhruvesh Jain, Deepak Chauhan, Ambalal Chauhan and Bhavna Gohil.
“Once the debris is removed, we will be able to gather some evidence from the spot and find out the reason for the blast,” Chaudhary told TOI.
Fire officials said that 11 houses in the residential colony suffered damages. Doors and windows of some of the houses got mangled, while walls and terraces of other homes in the vicinity witnessed cracks. Fire officials said that no one in the neighbourhood complained of gas leakage and there was no fire in the house either.
