KORAPUT: A 12-year-old boy was found dead under mysterious circumstances on the roof of his house at Jeypore in Koraput district on Thursday evening.
The deceased, Sibasish Nayak, was a Class VII student of Saraswati Sishu Vidya Mandir, Parabeda, police sources said. His father, Gadadhar, said Sibasish had returned home in the afternoon after appearing in the school examination and had gone to the roof of his house.
"When he did not return after a long time, I asked my wife and daughter to look for him and they found him lying unconscious on the roof. Froth was coming out of his mouth. We rushed him to the district headquarters hospital, where the doctors declared him dead," said Gadadhar.
Suspecting foul play, Gadadhar said two days back four anti-socials of Parabeda had forcibly taken Sibashish to the stadium ground and demanded Rs 1,000 from him and threatened Sibasish of dire consequences if he disclosed the matter to anyone.
"Frightened Sibasish had given them Rs 1,000 on September 27 by stealing from me but he had later told me about the incident," said Gadadhar.
"I suspect foul play and demand a thorough investigation into the case," he added. Meanwhile, police said a case of unnatural death has been registered. "Based on the complaint of the deceased student's father, an investigation has been initiated," said Sambit Behera, IIC, Jeypore town police station.
