Air pollution sources in Delhi to be tracked in real time from Oct 20

Soon, sources of pollution at any location in the national capital can be tracked in real time as the Delhi government's source apportionment system will start providing data from October 20. Adviser to the Delhi government Reena Gupta told PTI that the real-time source apportionment study will help identify and locate the exact contribution of various polluting sources within the city on a real-time basis.

Mumbai University postpones semester V exams; may be held after Diwali

Mumbai University’s semester V exams for final-year students will be postponed and are likely to be scheduled after Diwali. While a circular to this effect is yet to be released, it will be done after the board of examinations’ meeting.On Wednesday, senate members affiliated to Yuva Sena gheraoed the acting director (board of examinations and evaluations), Prasad Karande, in his office and sought postponement of exams. Students from several colleges also gathered near Exam Bhavan to appeal to the university authorities.

Thane records 43 new Covid-19 cases; active tally at 390

With the addition of 43 coronavirus positive cases, the overall infection tally in Maharashtra's Thane district has grown to 7,45,004, a health official said on Friday. These cases were reported on Thursday and there are now 390 active cases in the district, he said. The death toll remained unchanged at 11,962 as nobody succumbed to the infection on Thursday, while the count of recoveries has reached 7,33,377, the official added. (PTI)

In a major relief to over 65,000 cooperative housing societies across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, the state government has given them time till December 31 to hold their annual general meeting (AGM) and till October 31 to get done with their audit submissions.Housing society federations said that due to Covid, several societies managed to clear their audits for 2020-21 only by March this year and were now burdened with the audit backlog for the previous financial year, 2021-22.

Man assaulted by mob in Thane on suspicion of being child-lifter; hospitalised for multiple injuries

A man in his thirties was severely beaten up by a mob on the suspicion of being a child-lifter at Diva in Maharashtra's Thane city, police said on Friday. The incident took place on Thursday afternoon and the victim, Pintu Nissar, was rescued by the police and admitted to a local hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment for multiple injuries, an official said. WR to run 106 15-car services, 79 of them AC, from tomorrow

There will be 27 more 15-car services in addition to 31 new air-conditioned services for commuters of Western Railway, which will be introducing its revised time-table for suburban section from October 1.In the new time table, WR has increased the trains from 1,375 to 1,383, which also includes extension of 50 services.WR’s chief public relations officer Sumit Thakur said, “Fifteen-coach services have been increased by 27, thereby taking the total to 106 from 79. ”At present, out of 79 fifteencoach services, 30 services do not run on Saturday. However, in the new time-table all 106 fifteen-car services will run on Saturdays.Thakur further said that provision has been made to augment 93 additional 12-coach services, which will be done in a phased manner.

30-year-old TV actor dies by suicide at Versova

A 30-year-old small time television actor died by suicide in a hotel room at Versova on Wednesday night.Versova police said that she had been living with her parents at Yamuna Nagar, near Lokandhwala Complex in Andheri and was under stress. The actress rented a room in a hotel and hanged herself.The police have found a suicide note in the room where the woman has stated that she is taking her life and it was her decision and no one should be blamed. The police have registered an accidental death report in the matter and have ruled out foul play.

Maharashtra: Husband, mother-in-law get life in dowry death case

Panvel court on Wednesday sentenced the husband and the mother-in-law of a woman who was burnt alive by the duo over dowry seven years ago; to rigorous life term imprisonment and a fine of Rs 60,000. Additional sessions judge Jairaj D. Wadne pronounced the verdict.Deceased Jyoti Mhatre's husband Nilesh Mhatre (35) and mother-in-law Malti Mhatre (53), both have been in Taloja jail for past seven years. The fine amount will be given as compensation to Jyoti’s father, complainant Hiraman Tawari, a resident of Rave, Pen taluka, Raigad.
