Bizmen: Finish repair work on UCPMA-Arora Palace Road
Ludhiana: Although it would ultimately benefit them, but those who have shops, offices and factories in Gill Road, on United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers (UCPMA)–Arora Palace stretch, are not happy about the road work.
The roads are being concretised at several chowks here due to which the roads have been blocked, they claim. According to them, not only traffic chaos but the work has led to huge drop in their sales and they are incurring heavy losses due to the work, completion date of which is yet unclear.
Gulshan Kumar, owner of a wholesale garment shop near Jaimal Road Chowk, said, “It has been about 20 days now since the road in front of our market was uprooted by the authorities for cementing of this small stretch. Ever since the work began, there is no access to our shops by two wheelers and four wheelers and it is very hard for the people to come on foot too. Our sales have gone down by almost 90% and we are just praying that this work gets over soon.”
According to Jaswinder Singh Thukral, president of Janta Nagar Small Scale Manufacturers Association, “Every day we have to face huge traffic jams as after every few meters one side of the roads where this work is going on is closed. Authorities should not have executed this concrete work at one go at all the crossings, it would have been better if it was done at one crossing before they opened the road on the next crossing.”
According to Jatinder Sharma, a shopkeeper in the area, “Complete chaos is being witnessed on the road from UCPMA to Arora Palace. If a person has to go from Shimlapuri till Gill Chowk, it takes more than half an hour. Earlier, it took us 10 minutes. It is our request to the authorities to complete this work at the earliest and give us relief.”
