Work begins on Cuttack railway station upgrade
Bhubaneswar: The railways have started revamping of Cuttack railway station, which was connected to the Indian railway network in 1899. It will build a three-storied building with better parking, add more passenger amenities and develop a second entry to the station from the national highway.
The project will have separate facilities for arrival and departure, amenities for the physically challenged, green building features and other facilities with an aim to better passenger experience.
After widening of the road, passengers coming from OMP Square side will not face problems anymore. Better parking arrangements for vehicles with pick-up and drop-off facilities will help people from Jagatsinghpur, Paradip, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Niali and other areas who are coming to the station by road, said East Coast Railway (ECoR) official sources.
Station redevelopment work has been sanctioned in 2021-22. The ECoR received the conceptual plans and presentation on redevelopment on July 26 and started the facelift.
According to the project, a new three-storied station building will come up on the OMP Square side of the station which will have GRP office, parcel, RMS and RPF offices. An electrical sub-station, two more foot overbridges, six lifts, three escalators, will be included.
