Rs 2.5 crore drugs seized from Kamrup Express

GUWAHATI: Assam Police on Thursday seized brown sugar worth Rs 2.5 crore in the international market from the Dibrugarh-Howrah Kamrup Express at Lumding junction in Assam’s Hojai district. One Rashidul Haque was arrested in connection with the case.
Police said the contraband weighing over 421 grams were concealed in 31 soap cases. “The consignment was smuggled from Dimapur in Nagaland and was en-route to Chaparmukh in Assam’s Nagaon district,” a police officer said.
In July, brown sugar worth around Rs 1 crore was seized in the district. TNN
