Daniel Ricciardo is an F1 driver from Australia who races for McLaren but would now be replaced as the last F1 team to hire him. Oscar Piastri, a 21-year-old Australian driver, will take his place.

At the moment, Daniel Ricciardo is without an F1 seat to start the new season and his team of negotiators is still in talks. The F1 circuit is quite strict about the rule that if a driver leaves the circuit for another discipline, they can get an opportunity in F1 again. Ricciardo believes that he doesn’t want to leave F1 and will try out the options before settling even for a reserve driver position.

Even if he is offered a role in another circuit, such as Nascar or Indycar, he does not want to leave the circuit. On the whole, the options in front of Ricciardo are Alpha Tauri, Alpine, Haas and Williams, but time seems to be running out, and a decision should hopefully be made in his favour. He feels those are the only two options he has: joining as a reserve or getting an F1 call from the four others who are left.

Piastri announced

Alpine F1 on Tuesday announced long-time academy racer Oscar Piastri as one of their drivers for the 2023 season, only to be rebuffed by the driver. The Australian F2 champion tweeted later saying he had not signed, throwing the driver market into chaos.

Alonso arrives at Aston

The catalyst for the signing of Piastri was two-time World Champion Fernando Alonso signing for Aston Martin for the next season, to replace their retiring driver, Sebastian Vettel.

Rebuffed

"I understand that, without my agreement, Alpine F1 have put out a press release late this afternoon that I am driving for them next year. This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023. I will not be driving for Alpine next year," tweeted Piastri

Ricciardo at risk

Piastri's rebuttal of Alpine could spell disaster for McLaren's Daniel Ricciardo, who is already under scrutiny in light of his underwhelming performances. Piastri is in the running for Ricciardo's seat, with McLaren chief Zak Brown already in talks with the young Australian.

Vettel kicks it off

All the Alpine drama kicked off with four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel announcing his retirement at the end of this season. Aston Martin lined up Alonso as his replacement, leaving Alpine in the lurch
