To those unfamiliar, cosplay is a form of performance art that allows fans to dress up as their favorite characters from anime, manga, and video games. KatKwo, a US-based cosplayer, has been cosplaying for over three years, specializing in portraying the female protagonists from popular series.

Some of the recent characters she has cosplayed are Emma Frost and Psylocke from X-Men, Nezuko from Demonslayer, Ishtar in Fate GO, Azula from Avatar swimsuit among others. In addition, KatKwo enjoys bringing life to anime characters and superheroes by cosplaying and taking pictures at comic cons worldwide.

Her fascination with cosplaying began when she was a child and has only grown stronger with time. Kat discloses that she has always enjoyed watching anime, reading manga, and playing video games for longer than she can remember. However, that love went up a notch higher when she attended her first comic con in 2019. Kat explains that she felt elated as she shared space with like-minded people, united by their love for cosplaying. Since then, she has traveled to other comic cons and other anime related conventions and shared her experiences with thousands of cosplay fans on her social profiles.

“I bring the characters to life by taking photos and attending conventions,” Kat explains. She adds that through photos and modeling, she adds special effects to enhance the power or theme of the characters. She found conventions satisfying, as she could mingle with fellow cosplayers and present her cosplays to others who would appreciate them as much as she does. This boosts her confidence and inspires her to experiment with new styles she would never have thought of trying.

“I love when others recognize my cosplay and shout out my cosplay character’s name,” she shares. “It makes me feel accomplished, and all the hard work has paid off.”

KatKwo is impressed with the turnout of most of her cosplays. She adds, “I am most happy with Bewitching Miss Fortune from League of Legends. First, I loved the costume and the two candlestick guns I got to carry around,” she recalls. “Second, I love the convention. It was my first time attending PAX East, and I had a ton of fun with friends. I was also blessed to have multiple photoshoots with some amazing photographers there, which really made me more proud of the cosplay!”

This has been a turning point in her career, as she has since made appearances at some of her favorite conventions, such as the San Diego Comic-Con and LA Comic Con. Kat’s dream is to do more elaborate cosplays with fancy accessories and weapons in the future. She is also looking forward to traveling and attending to more different anime related conventions out of the country.

In response to the question- Is it easy to become a cosplayer, attend fantastic events in different parts of the country, and meet many gorgeous people who love cosplaying as much as you do? KatKwo answers yes and no.

It’s simple if you love cosplaying and simpler if you have a character you love and are passionate about. Kat adds that you can make your crafting, but there’s no standing rule that says otherwise. She says many good quality costumes are available online, which you would only need to add a creative spin to. She admonishes newbies “Don’t let people tell you what you should or should not do. Prioritize your happiness so far it doesn’t get in the way of others.”
