Loo for transgenders unveiled at govt hostel, 5 buildings seized
Jaipur: Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) Heritage mayor Munesh Gurjar on Thursday inaugurated a toilet for transgender persons in a government hostel in the city with the aim of making public infrastructure more accessible.
The mayor said that more signages will be installed for transgender persons in the city.
Gurjar said, “Transgenders have always been a part of our society and they need equal facilities, so we have started this initiative where signages will be installed in the city. Jaipur is the first city where such an initiative has been started. We want to make our city more inclusive and accessible for all and this is the first step towards it.”
Officials said that JMC Heritage designed the sign along with Center for Advocacy and Research and city-based Nai Bhor Sanstha.
Meanwhile, acting on encroachments and illegal construction in the city, JMC Heritage on Thursday seized five such buildings in Kishanpole zone.
Rakesh Meena, Kishanpole zone deputy commissioner, said, “Action is being taken against those who are undertaking illegal constructions and tampering with the heritage architecture. On Thursday, we seized five buildings who had illegal constructions. We had sent notices to the builders earlier, but construction activity continued.”
