Ranchi: India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Ranchi unit has issued a yellow warning for the next five days, while also predicting scant rainfall, along with thunder and lightning till Saturday. The bulletin also predicted fairly widespread rain on Saptami in most parts of the state and it would further aggravate a day after on Monday (Ashtami).
Though no significant synoptic condition prevails over Jharkhand, many parts in the state have been recording moderate to heavy rainfall. As many as 37 weather stations recorded rainfall activity in the past 24 hours. Amrapara in Pakur recorded maximum 67mm of rainfall, while Ranchi and Daltonganj recorded 1.4mm and 2mm rainfall, respectively.
Issuing an extended range forecast for the next two weeks, director in-charge at Ranchi IMD, Abhishek Anand, said that a cyclonic circulation is likely to emerge in northeast and adjoining east central Bay of Bengal around Saturday.
“Under the influence of the present synoptic features, dynamic scenario and model guidance, during the first half of the week ending October 6, scattered light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur, whereas in the second half of the week, fairly wide to widespread moderate rainfall with isolated heavy spell is also expected,” Anand said.
The IMD had already suggested the puja organisers to keep appropriate waterproofing arrangements and issued an advisory to the district administration for management of traffic movement in the wake of inclement weather conditions.
On an average during the week ending October 6, the state is expected to receive above normal rainfall which will further mitigate the seasonal shortfall. As of date, the state has received 803.9mm rainfall as against the seasonal normal of 1,018.3mm which indicates 21% negative departure. In meteorological parameters, monsoon would be considered normal if there’s an increase in the overall precipitation by 2% during the next 48 hours.
During the week ending October 13, the state is likely to receive cumulative above normal rainfall.
