NOIDA: Sudden cardiac deaths are taking place because risks like smoking, obesity, consumption of unhealthy food and lack of exercise are not assessed in time, leading to blockage in arteries, according to doctors. On the eve of World Heart Day, which is observed on September 30, they said the younger population has also become prone to cardiac arrests.
“This is due to smoking, stress, bad quality of cooking oil used in street food and lack of exercise. Sudden cardiac deaths occur due to blockages in coronary arteries, where even a small blockage can prove to be fatal. If the person is not revived within three minutes, they can die. One should be careful of symptoms like mild acidity, burning sensation in the chest and uneasiness, which are overlooked by people,” said Dr Sunil Sofat, director (interventional cardiology and electrophysiology) at Jaypee Hospital, Noida.
Experts highlighted lifestyle changes should take place at an early age to reduce the risk. “Viral infections during winters make persons with certain risk factors more vulnerable to heart attacks. If they correct their lifestyle, sudden cardiac attacks and deaths can be averted,” he said.
