Tax evasion: GST inspections across city

Ludhiana: Teams of the Punjab state GST (SGST) department are conducting inspections at several places in the city for checking tax evasions.
Members of Range-3 of the SGST on Wednesday conducted inspection on a harvester and agricultural machinery manufacturer in the city. The inspection was done on suspicion of tax evasions, and it was still on at the time of filing this story. More information on the inspection was awaited till filing of the report.
In another action, the team on Tuesday evening also conducted an inspection at the renowned Haqiqat Sweets. Following instructions from their higher-ups, members of SGST Range-3 visited the shop located near Dandi Swami and along with checking the documents and account books, they also tallied their stock. The team also analysed the sale, purchase and total cash-in-hand of the shop, and also took along several documents with them.
As of now, the exact amount of tax evasion, if any done by the shop owners is unclear, and the department is analysing the seized documents that is ought to take sometime. Sources revealed that these inspections might be in connection with an old case of tax evasion.
