Tourism is an important driver of economic growth and job creation in India, said Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
The Vice President addressed the National Tourism Awards organized by the Ministry of Tourism. He said that there are several facets of tourism. There is a need to fully exploit India’s huge prospective in the field of medical tourism along with increasing global interest in the ancient Indian practices of healing like Ayurveda and yoga.
Dhankhar added that the expansion of the tourism segment has been supplemented by inventiveness like ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ and ‘Utsav Portal’. He urged Indians to travel to domestic tourist destinations before considering international getaways. Majority of the tourist spots in India have a profound connection with the history, folk arts and ancient texts of the country. India is truly a ‘haven for tourism’.
The Union Minister of Tourism G. Kishan Reddy said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the tourism division of India is moving toward creative, responsible and wide-ranging growth.
