NOIDA: A Phase 1 police team have arrested a man for allegedly stabbing another to death at Mahila Park in Harola around 2 am on Tuesday after finding him sleeping on a bench he had been using for his night's rest.

The accused, Rajendra Thapa, a resident of New Ashok Nagar, has been arrested for killing Mintu Singh, a native of Bihar living in the city. "After we received information about the murder, teams started investigating the case. We identified the suspect through CCTV footage from a nearby camera and began tracing him. He was arrested near Labour Chowk in Harola on Tuesday night," said Ashutosh Dwivedi, additional deputy commissioner of police, Noida.
Dwivedi further informed that the accused worked as a ragpicker and used to sleep in the park where the incident took place. "On that night, when he came to sleep, he found Mintu already sleeping on the bench. So, in a fit of anger and an inebriated condition, he stabbed Mintu multiple times," said Dwivedi. Later, investigations revealed that the accused also used to commit petty crimes in nearby areas.
Police have booked the accused under section 302 (murder) of the IPC based on a complaint filed by the victim's son.
