Awareness created on nutrition, oral health
Mangaluru: Nitte Special Child Care Centre (NSPECC), in collaboration with Akshara Dasoha (Mid-day meal scheme) and Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat, organised an awareness programme for children and parents on nutrition and oral health, at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose government school, Deralakatte, and Lions special school, Surathkal, recently.
The speakers for the awareness programmes were Dr Amarshree A Shetty, associate dean, student welfare and secretary, NSPECC, and Dr Arun Thejaus, Nitte Centre for Integrated Medicine and Research. The resource persons highlighted the importance of nutrition, and the influence of substance abuse on the overall development of the body and oral health, and the association of poor oral health and nutrition to various health problems among adolescents.
This programme was organised as a part of nutrition education advocacy, by the government of India, a part of the Midday Meal scheme, ‘Poshan Bhi-Padhai Bhi,’directed towards schoolchildren, spreading its mission of helping children reach their dreams through proper nutrition education.
