A senior woman IAS officer in Bihar has kicked up a major controversy by publicly mocking a poor schoolgirl who asked if the government could provide sanitary napkins at lower prices, saying there was no end to such demands and asking if they would want 'condoms too.'
"Can the government give us sanitary napkins at Rs20-30?" the schoolgirl asked IAS Harjot Kaur Bamhrah at a workshop titled "Sashakt Beti Samridh Bihar (Strong daughters, Prosperous Bihar).
"Tomorrow you can ask for jeans, then beautiful shoes and finally when it comes to family planning, you can say the government should give condoms, too," Bamhrah snapped at the girl.
Social welfare minister Madan Sahni has expressed shock over the incident.
