Free houses for 4,000 as Maharashtra govt waives fees

KALYAN: The state government has instructed the MHADA to waive charges to the tune of Rs 560 crore for 4,000 houses built under Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP) scheme in Kalyan-Dombivli. This will help the KDMC to allot 4,000 houses to the beneficiaries free of charge, Kalyan Lok Sabha MP Shirkant Shinde said on Tuesday while adressing media.
The MHADA was earlier charging Rs 14 lakh and the Central government Rs 3 lakh per house from each beneficiary no-objection certificates. The Central government earlier had waived off Rs 120 crore. "In a landmark decision, the MHADA for first time in state has decided to waived off Rs 560 crore for 4000 houses built under BSUP scheme in Kalyan- Dombivli".
Dr Shinde said, "Presently KDMC to give 350 beneficiaries houses free of cost and along with same they have plan to give these houses as compensation to those in future will affect in ongoing road widening and other development projects in city to boost these projects".
The KDMC under BSUP scheme had constructed 7,000 houses of which 3,000 have already been allotted.
