Panaji: The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Mumbai (CSMVS) is one of the premier art, archaeology and natural history museums in India. On January 10 this year, the CSMVS completed 100 years, and now the Citi-CSMVS ‘Museum on Wheels’ will bring this glorious history to its audience in Goa through two exhibitions in a bus.
This ‘Museum on Wheels’ will be visiting the Museum of Christian Art, Old Goa, on Thursday and Friday and will be open for viewing from 10am to 5pm. The buses have two new exhibitions and entry will be free for all.
As a part of this collaboration, a seminar for educators will also be organised at the Museum of Christian Art, Old Goa on September 29 from 11am onwards. This session is open to educators from schools, colleges, museums and other institutions and will cover the theme of ‘Teaching with Museum Objects’. Registration and participation for this seminar is free.
The first CSMVS exhibition on wheels highlights 100 years of glorious journey and the Museum’s rich collection and cultural significance, while the second exhibition attempts to draw a bridge between the scientific and aesthetic aspects of music, enabling visitors to enjoy the experience of interacting with various musical instruments.
The Citi-CSMVS ‘Museum on Wheels’ initiative, now over seven years old, furthers the Museum’s outreach activities. The customised air-conditioned buses are fully equipped with display cases for objects, demonstration kits, art supplies, audio-visual equipment, and digital interactives.
The buses host exhibitions on specific subjects, which change periodically and the vehicles are equipped with a ramp for wheelchair users and have CCTV surveillance for security purposes.
In 2015, the Museum on Wheels initiative was started as a unique outreach program to reach out to people who cannot come to the Museum.
