GREATER NOIDA: Cops busted a gang allegedly selling SIM cards issued on fake IDs to foreigners and smuggling drugs on Tuesday and arrested five people. They also recovered 700 SIM cards, 55 grams of crystal MDMA worth Rs 20 lakh, 40 tablets of ecstasy MDMA and 90 grams of foreign weed worth Rs 50,000.
One accused, Sixtus Nnaemeka Okuma, is a Nigerian national living in Delhi. His visa had expired in 2013. The other four are also Delhi residents - Tajkah Nanduk from Majnu Ka Tila, Litton Dass from Govindpuri, Balram from Lalkua village, and Asim Khan from Jabir Nagar. Police said they sold a SIM card for Rs 1,700-1,900, usually to Chinese or Nigerian nationals in Delhi-NCR. Besides, they supplied MDMA and weed to college students in Greater Noida.
Abhishek Verma, DCP, Greater Noida, said they have alerted the immigration bureau about Okuma and booked him under the Foreigners' Act and the NDPS Act. "After receiving a tip-off, a police team tracked down the accused and arrested them from Greater Noida," Verma said.
During interrogation, the accused told police they used to sell the SIM cards with the help of courier services. "Police will question the courier service provider," the DCP said.
A senior cop said a team is making a list of people using the SIM cards sold by the gang. "The gang has sold over 2,400 SIM cards so far," he said.
Police booked the accused under IPC sections 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), and 471 (fraudulently or dishonestly using a genuine document).
