Not a single child lifting complaint in Goa: SP south
Margao/Bicholim: South Goa SP Abhishek Dhania on Wednesday said that not a single case of child lifting has been reported to the police across the state and urged people not to be carried away by rumours.
“No such case has been reported to us. However, we are maintaining proper vigil and patrol vehicles are deployed near schools during school opening and closing hours,” Dhania told reporters. He, however, underscored the need for taking due precautions to remain vigilant and alert.
A man was attacked by a mob in Vasco, on Tuesday, suspecting him to be involved in kidnapping a boy. Vasco police later said that the man appeared to be mentally unstable and that he would be admitted to the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour, Bambolim, after obtaining a court order to that effect.
On Thursday, panic gripped parents of students from various schools of Bicholim taluka after instances of strangers coming to schools to pick up students emerged.
In a high school at Sanquelim, two unknown persons in the age group of 25 years came to pick up a fifth standard student, but left after they were told that the classes will be over by 1.30pm. The incident came to light after the mother denied sending anyone to pick her child from school. The school’s headmistress then informed the police following which cops attached to the Sanquelim police outpost came and checked the school’s CCTV footage.
However, no suspicious activities were found in the said CCTV footage, police said. Similar incidents were also reported in a school in Bicholim and Piligao, sources said.
