Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to continue its restrictions on immersion of goddess Durga idols in city’s water bodies this year too.
“We will not provide any artificial tank in city limits like we did for small Ganesh idols. This time the artificial tank alongside Koradi lake will be the only option,” deputy municipal commissioner Dr Gajendra Mahalle told TOI.
Navratri festival is being celebrated with enthusiasm this year after a gap of two years post-Covid. Around 350 Sarvajanik Mandals (both big and small) have installed idols of goddess Durga across the city.
Although this number is less compared to sarvajanik Ganesh mandals, the number of public Durga mandals has increased compared to the last few years, said NMC officials from the estate department. Arrangements will be made by the NMC for immersion of idols of goddess Durga after Navratri.
“During Ganeshotsav, artificial ponds were arranged for the immersion of idols less than four feet high. Household idols were also immersed in it. However, the NMC has also clarified that no such facility will be available for Durga Utsav,” officials said. Only the artificial tank at Koradi lake will be the place for immersion of idols, they said.
