Nature lovers of Steel City get a new biodiversity park
Jamshedpur: The Tata Steel management has gifted the nature lovers and fitness freaks another green zone in the heart of the Steel City — Kadma Biodiversity Park.
Inaugurating the park spread over 13.5acre land with 5,650 trees, the vice-president of corporate services (Tata Steel), Chanakya Chaudhary, on Monday evening said the park was built within a span of less than two years after demolishing Tata Steel’s old dilapidated quarters for employees.
The park is open for the masses who can enjoy yoga or jog on the 2.3km walking trail in fresh air while admiring the greens in the city.
Dedicated artificial nests have been installed on trees for birds, especially the winter migratory birds, who visit the city. Dedicated bird watching zones have been created for the enthusiasts.
A butterfly park along with a bamboo orchard has also been designed. The park has over 4,000 shrubs and fruit trees. Squirrels’ nests and a lily pond add to the beauty of this green buffer zone within the city.
Students and nature lovers can tap into the dedicated information centre built here to learn about flora nad fauna.
The Tata Steel aims for ‘No Net Loss of Biodiversity’ under a Biodiversity Policy. Several initiatives like the development of the Dalma view pond, CRM Bara ponds, Golmuri pond, Jugsalai Muck dump, ISWP ponds, have been taken in recent years.
Company officials said since 2019, the Tata Steel has not only achieved over 33 acres of additional green cover but also made way for 44.6 acres of land for water bodies which can hold upto 412 million litres of water in its endeavour towards a sustainable future.
