10cr machine to aid neurosurgery at SMS
Jaipur: Patients of stroke and brain haemorrhage reaching Sawai Man Singh Hospital will be treated through neuro-interventional procedures assisted by a high-end digital subtraction angiography (DSA) machine that has been procured at a cost of Rs10 crore. It will help in life-saving procedures with more accuracy and in less time by using a 3D technology, said doctors.
The machine, which was procured two months ago following a budget announcement by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, is now ready for routine procedures and has been installed properly at the operation theatre.
“We have been doing the neuro-interventional procedures for the past ten years, but this machine has many advantages over the one we have been using till now,” said SMS Hospital superintendent Dr Achal Sharma, who is also the head of the department of neurosurgery at the hospital.
The machine is based on 3D technology and gives clear images of the arterial branches, added Dr Sharma. It will also benefit in procedures for brain and spinal disorders.
The use of this modern DSA machine will expose patients to less radiation. Since the machine is equipped with CT-scan, it will help the neurosurgeons get clear information on haemorrhage in the brain. It is a turnkey project as it was designed, developed and equipped with all facilities by a company under a contract, said officials.
The machine uses catheters, and it is based on radiology to diagnose the disease and helps in angiography of the brain in stroke patients. Since the central nervous system is a combination of the brain and the spinal cord, this machine will be useful for patients with brain and spinal cord disorders, said doctors.
