MYSURU: When Mysuru district minister ST Somashekar met president Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi last week, he had presented a Mysuru silk sari to her, which she wore when she landed at Mysuru Airport to launch Dasara festival, which is her first public engagement in Karnataka as the First Citizen after her election in July.
Murmu added glitter to the Dasara festival by wearing the beige Mysuru silk sari manufactured by Karnataka Silk Industry Corporation at the Mysuru unit.
Draped in the sari, President arrived at the Airport from Delhi at 9am and reached the Chamundi Hills. She visited Sri Chamundeshwari temple and offered pooja to the deity Chamundeshwari before inaugurating the festival in Vrischika Lagna.
Addressing the gathering, CM Basavaraj Bommai recollected the response of the First Citizen when he contacted her to inaugurate the festival. “I called her office in the morning and by evening she had consented to do the honours. She told me that it is her first visit to any state in India after taking charge. I’m delighted that she has started her public engagement from Chamundi Hills,” he said.
