HYDERABAD: Following attacks on the residences of BJP leaders in Tamil Nadu and large-scale violence in Kerala during a bandh called by the Popular Front of India (PFI), intelligence reports indicated that the members and leaders of the BJP, RSS and other right-wing organisations could face threats from anti-social elements in the state.

The city police, including Special Branch officials, have reportedly alerted state BJP leaders to take precautions and offered to increase security at the state BJP office. The BJP leaders are said to have refused to accept enhanced security.

Sources said plainclothes police officers would be stationed outside BJP offices in the state as a precautionary measure.

According to the sources, intelligence officials and the police warned the BJP that PFI members and anti-social elements have planned to disrupt law and order during the Dasara festival to protest the NIA raids on PFI members and leaders.

Following this, the police has directed district superintendents of police (SPs) and police commissioners to provide tight security arrangements at the Navaratri celebrations.

The NIA had recently conducted multiple raids in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to probe alleged terror links of local PFI members and detained five of them. On July 6, the police in Nizamabad arrested four PFI activists.
