Shinzo Abe State Funeral: Modi Meets Japanese PM Kishida

Abe died at the age of 67 while delivering a stump speech near a train station in the western city of Nara when he was shot by an assailant

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida, said Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in a statement. 

PM Modi on Monday left for Tokyo to participate in the state funeral of former Japanese PM, Shinzo Abe.

"The Prime Minister conveyed his deepest condolences for the demise of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe," the statement read. 

Abe died at the age of 67 while delivering a stump speech near a train station in the western city of Nara when he was shot by an assailant.

"The Prime Minister noted the contributions of late Prime Minister Abe in strengthening India-Japan partnership as well in conceptualizing the vision of a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region," as per the statement. 

The two leaders had an exchange of views on further deepening bilateral relations. They also discussed a number of regional and global issues. 

"The leaders renewed their commitment towards further strengthening the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, and in working together in the region and in various international groupings and institutions," it said.
