Raids underway in multiple states against PFI members: Catch the LIVE updates here

Raids were going on against the PFI members in Aurangabad, Jalana, Parbhani districts of Maharashtra; Simoga, Bidar, Ballari, Hubli, Kalburgi districts of Karnataka; Nagarbera of Assam; Bulandshahr's Kasba Syana, Sarurpur and Lisari Gate area of Meerut in Western Uttar Pradesh; and at several places in Delhi.

Cracking down on the Popular Front of India for its alleged terrorism-related activities and radicalising Muslim youth, the second round of raids are currently underway in several states based on inputs from those arrested earlier.

More than 50 people have been detained and arrests are likely after the questioning is done, IANS cited sources as saying.

Raids were going on in Aurangabad, Jalana, Parbhani districts of Maharashtra; Simoga, Bidar, Ballari, Hubli, Kalburgi districts of Karnataka; Nagarbera of Assam; Bulandshahr's Kasba Syana, Sarurpur and Lisari Gate area of Meerut in Western Uttar Pradesh; and at several places in Delhi.

The NIA and the ED had arrested more than 106 members of the PFI earlier in the week.

  • Police have detained several Popular Front of India (PFI) leaders in urban and rural areas of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts early on Tuesday.

  • 30 people detained in Delhi in connection with crackdown on Popular Front of India (PFI): Police sources.

  • Second round of raids are currently underway against PFI members across eight states. The raids started early Tuesday morning.

  • Assam Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) (Special Branch) Hiren Nath said five PFI members have been detained from Nagarbera area.

  • Four persons have been taken into custody in Western Uttar Pradesh.

  • In Maharashtra the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) and the local police were conducting the raids in Aurangabad, Jalana and Parbhani districts.

  • As of now, the NIA is investigating a total of 19 PFI related cases.
