Protest against CBSE textbook

Protest against CBSE textbook
Coimbatore: The cadres of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) on Monday staged a protest in front of the collectorate demanding removal of a chapter on the varna system from CBSE’s Class VI History textbook.
Registering their dissent against CBSE for including the subject in the textbook, the cadres said it could influence the young minds to practice caste discrimination. They tore the pages from the textbook to register their opposition.
CBSE is promoting casteism among students by classifying them as brahmins and shudras under the varna system, TPDK general secretary K Ramakrishnan told reporters. “The lower caste people are branded living outside villages and doing cleaning jobs, including picking up dead animals. Shudras were not considered as a part of any varna,” he said.
“BJP state president K Annamalai must be the first to protest against the issue to remove the topic from the curriculum. Instead, he is protesting against DMK MP A Raja’s comments on Manusmriti,” Ramakrishnan added.
Fifteen protesters were remanded in police custody.
