PUNE: The Hadapsar police on Sunday arrested a 23-year-old youth and detained his two minor accomplices on the charge of robbing a truck driver of cash, cell phone collectively worth Rs 15,000 after intercepting his vehicle and threatening to kill him with a sickle. The incident happened near a CNG fuel station on Mantarwadi road in Hadapsar around 1am on September 25.
A magisterial court on Monday sent the suspect Nitin Chavan from Hadapsar in custodial remand till September 29. Two minor boys aged 17 years were sent to an observation home in Yerawada.
Sub inspector Avinash Shinde on Monday said, “The trio riding triple seat on a scooter intercepted the truck heading to Hyderabad from Pune. Chavan and his accomplices barged into the driver’s cabin and attacked him and threatened him with a sickle and robbed cash Rs 10,000 and phone Rs 5, 000 and sped away.”
Shinde said, “The driver Ram Mohol (37) from Parbhani instantly reported the incident to Hadapsar police. A team from the detection branch with the help of driver conducted searches on Mantarwadi-Handewadi road. The driver identified the suspects who on seeing police sped away. We chased and took them into custody.”
“We have recovered the bike, sickle and stolen loot intact from the suspects,” he added.
