PUNE: A 32-year-old executive with a private company was arrested on the charge of assaulting a traffic constable along the Kharadi bypass, off Pune-Ahmednagar road, during the peak traffic hours at 5pm on Saturday.
Assistant inspector S N Lahane of the Airport police said, "Balkrishna Jayram Talke, who stays in Wagholi, was going to Hadapsar in his car. He jumped the red signal at the Kharadi Bypass Chowk. At this point, constable Anand Ramchandra Gosavi (43) intercepted his car and questioned Talke for jumping the signal, besides asking the latter to show his driving licence. As he initiated the process to impose a fine on the car driver, Talke started arguing with him."
Lahane said, "Soon, Talke abused and grabbed Gosavi by his collar. He tore off Gosavi's shirt. As the constable tried to pacify Talke, the latter removed his shoes and hit Gosavi on head. Two other policemen, manning the chowk nearby, overpowered Talke and took him to the police station."
Talke was arrested under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 504 (intentional insult) of the Indian Penal Code.
