LUCKNOW: Even as light to moderate rain lashed many parts of the state including Lucknow on Sunday, the rainfall activity will gradually decline from Monday and the monsoon may also start retreating from the state in the next three to four days, said weathermen.
As per the state MeT department, most parts of east UP and some in the West received rainfall on Sunday, which helped in improving the rainfall deficit that the state is witnessing due to deficient monsoon rain between July and August.
Overcast sky and rain dominated the weather in the state capital with about 22.4 mm rainfall recorded till the evening. The maximum temperature stood at 27.7 degree Celsius, six notches below normal while the minimum temperature was 25.1 degree Celsius, 1.5 units above normal.
State MeT director JP Gupta said light to moderate rainfall will continue to lash many parts in east UP districts bordering Bihar and in few places in central parts of the state. Similarly, rain is likely to occur at isolated places in west UP, he added.
"The monsoon has started retreating from the country and the withdrawal line was passing through Rajasthan on Sunday. We expect that the monsoon withdrawal from west UP will start in the next three to four days but complete retreat from the state may take seven to 10 days," the official predicted.
