Farmers jittery as rain damages crops
Jaipur/Kota: Mukesh Nagar, a farmer of Geta village in Kota, is a worried man.
He had taken loan from financial institution for sowing of soyabean crop. At the time of harvest, the unprecedented rainfall in the last couple of days, has damaged crops as his farm is totally inundated. Similar are the miseries of the farmers across the state due to rainfall in past couple of days.
In Kota and Baran, farmers associations staged protest and demanded crop damage assessment immediately from the government to provide them compensation. Similarly, farmers in Sikar, Jaipur (Rural) and Jhunjhunu witnessed crop damage.
“My whole village is inundated at the time when the crop of soyabean was on the verge of harvest. In past two days, heavy rainfall was witnessed. I have had taken loan from the bank and the crop is badly damaged,” said Mukesh.
In Kota division, farmers harvest soyabean and pulses in September. Farmers in Baran complained of the damage of soyabean crop.
Farmers in Bharatpur division also complained of damage to bajra crop. “It was lying in the farm and we were to shift it for the further cutting but prior to that rainfall on Thursday and Friday played a spoilsport,” said Ram Singh Faujdar of Nadauti village in Bharatpur.
Meanwhile, moderate to heavy showers continued across the state on Saturday in Kota, Jaipur and Bharatpur divisions.
Behror received a rainfall of 150mm which was highest in the state and was followed by Kotkasim (Alwar) where a rainfall of 130mm was received, Jawaja (Ajmer) 110mm, Jamwa Ramgarh (Jaipur) 100mm. Likewise, several places in the state witnessed a rainfall varying from 10mm to 10mm.
In its forecast, Jaipur Met office stated that the rainfall activity is likely to decrease except some rainfall at isolated places.
