COIMBATORE: The city corporation is organising ‘Arusuvai Street’, a two-day food festival, on the banks of Periyakulam from Saturday. People can visit the festival between 10am and 8pm on Sunday.
The corporation has been organising weekly events by the lakesides that were developed under the smart city scheme. The food festival follows the success of a marketplace and a light music show conducted near Periyakulam and Valankulam respectively on September 10.
As many as 10 stalls were set up on the opening day, and officials are expecting more shops would come up on Sunday. “The Periyakulam lake usually gets 12,000 visitors at weekends. This week, we are expecting more visitors because of the food festival,” a corporation official said.
Meanwhile, more dustbins were placed at Valankulam and Periyakulam to keep the waterbodies litter-free. Security personnel were instructed to monitor visitors and prevent them from littering the spot.
