Real time monitoring of escalators begins at Prayagraj Junction
Prayagraj: After receiving numerous complaints regarding non-functional escalators at Prayagraj Junction, authorities of the Prayagraj division of North Central Railways (NCR) have now developed a system through which the control room would get an alert message as soon as the escalators stops running and the railway staff would immediately rectify the same. The trial of the system has already been started at Prayagraj Junction following which it would be installed at other stations of the zone.
Presently, there are half-a-dozen escalators installed at different places at Prayagraj Junction to cater to the needs of the passengers. However, for the past around six months, there were repeated complaints being received by the railway administration of non-functioning of these escalators. Work for installing additional half-a-dozen escalators at the junction is in progress and the same would be completed in the present financial year.
“There were frequent complaints from passengers that the escalator at the station remained closed due to the pressing of the emergency button by some unknown person. To get rid of this problem, real time monitoring of all escalators installed at Prayagraj railway station, online and mobile through GPS has been started,” said chief public relation officer (CPRO), NCR, Dr Shivam Kumar.
This system has been developed by the employees of Prayagraj division using the departmental assets and that too at a very minimal cost. As soon as the escalator is turned off, a message is received on the mobile in the control room established at the junction and the alert system with alarm on the website is registered. As soon as the on-duty staff receives the alert, the electrician immediately rushes to fix that error and starts the escalator again. “A message is again received on the mobile as soon as the escalator starts running,” says Dr Sharma. With the introduction of this system, there has been a reduction in the complaints from the passengers . Along with this, the introduction of the system is saving the staff required to monitor each escalator and the data pertaining to condition and maintenance of the escalator is being saved, which can be used as and when required.
